Fun & Sports Dog Activities

I always have admired the ability to work and communicate with a dog at top level. Fun & sports dog activities such as Agility, Flyball , canine musical Freestyle have always attracted me so much that literally drove me crazy. Crazy from frustration , too. Because living in Greece where these sports are non existent left me without much chance of learning, sharpening my handling skills and enriching my relationship with my canine friends. Some lukewarm efforts did not bring much. It takes more than just the shere willpower to learn these sports correctly. You need knowledge and quidance. You need to observe top handlers and ask thousands of questions if you want to embark on such adventures with right foot without running the risk to ruin your dogs mental and physical ability to perform at top level and with great pleasure. Having learned my lessons from previouw bad experience I just waited for the right time, a chance to see and learn all these from close.
Sally Hopkins of Malvern Missiles was the angel to hand me the keys to enter the canine British world. She stoically suffered my endless questioning and relentless drive to learn. For twelve days she did more than her best to introduce me to different approaches of the sports, explain handling skills (front cross, pulling out etc) and drove me around England to see as much we could. We met different dog trainers and we practiced at different clubs and locations. All were very helpfull and I wish to thank them from my heart. Dogs bring the best out of people.

It was well after midnight when we got to the camping site in.....

I was really tired and fell straight away asleep. What a beautiful scene in the morning. Hundreds of caravans parked around the field , people having the traditional English breakfast. The handlers would take their dogs for the morning walk along a small river wher ducks and cows where already grazing. To the English eye all these might be an everyday experience but not to me.Living in Athens you have no place to walk peacefully with your dogs.England is a very dog friendly country.

When the Flyball started , the peace died. Everybody got excited, striving for the victory. It was serious business. With order and patience each team would line up for running. The dogs excelled. Most of them were very willing to run. Very few though seemed to prefer doing something else. Too stressed I believe. The weather was really warm. Many thanked me for bringing good weather form Greece but believe it or not my face and neck suffered minor burnings that day. The races continued well to late afternoon. By the end of the day I was exhasted. So much going on, so fast. so noisy, so much to learn. I very kindly turned down the offer for drink at the party that was organized. My legs could not support me and my head could not function clearly anymore. I went to bed and dreamt of running around a course with my dogs.
